LOVER THIEF 02:44
When I saw you lover/thief, you took me by surprise And when you fell in love with me, I looked into your eyes Tell me true you lover, are you just a thief? Tell me true you lover, don’t you lie to me. And then I found out lover/thief, that you been makin’ night flights Steppin’ down to Venice town, jazzin’ in the night lights Tell me now you lover, aren’t you just a thief? Tell me now you lover, what have you done to me. Well in the evenin’ lover/thief, and in the daylight hours May darkness be your only friend, in darkness is your power Aren’t you just a thief? Don’t you lie to me. Devil take you lover/thief

The radio has songs, and the songs always play And I live my life on Elavil, mixing night and day The man across the alley watches shadows on a screen And I watch him when he goes outside, and I know he watches me. Hypnotized in the morning, paralyzed at night The radio is my door into the world. My connexion runs from the sea to the sea And I know if I reach far enough someone will reach for me Waiting by a radio, waiting just like me She knows the song is all there is, and all there will ever be. Hypnotized in the morning, paralyzed at night The radio is my door into the world.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know, dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away You told me once, dear, you really loved me And no one else could come between. But now you've left me and love another; Now I see you just in dreams. The other night dear, as I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you in my arms But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken So I hung my head and I cried. And when the angels come to take me I’ll remember my love & pain And if we fly over you as we’re leaving My lonely tears will fall as your rain

“This is Mystery Radio” that’s what it said On a random station in the middle of the night. We were takin’ the Studebaker down to Baytown My baby and me staring out at the cold headlights. I reached for the dial but Marilyn stopped my hand “Let’s listen to this for a little while” And listen we did as the black highway pitched White lines like bones for mile after mile. It was a dance show On Mystery Radio From somewhere down in Southern Italy Ten million watts A ghostly hot spot Introducing a new dance called the Mussolini. Stand up straight that’s right arch your back Smile real broad fold your arms across your chest Act real confident like you were the President And use Ethiopia as your footrest. Do the Mussolini Nod your big bald head and grin like a loon Do the Mussolini If he was in your place you know he’d do you. This was something new like nothing ever heard On normal radio they play Tom Petty tunes Some late night distortion of the time/space ozone We couldn’t help but dance to the fascist goon. “Turn it off!” I shouted as the car went off the road It was a radio virus controlling our minds I turned it off myself and brought the car to a halt The Studebaker’s nose pushed up against a Burma Shave sign. Commies are Red —Nazis think brown’s a winner —Il Duce likes blackshirts —They make him look thinner — Burma Shave. And then later that night we finally made it home I was so glad to be in bed with my sweetie, But later I awoke, she was pounding on my chest Saying “Get up and get down with the Mussolini!” It was a radio virus Mussolini.

My name is of no consequence, I come from TumbridgeWells I never strayed too far from home my story brief to tell A sub-assistant’s helper I’ve worked for years and years It hollowed out my life till I wonder why I’m here On any given weekday I spend my night at Mom’s A pub in Teignmouth Beach, its real name is Mother’s Son. I raise a pint, I watch the team, I listen to the lads Tell how they onetime had the prize, the best a man can have Between my work and Mother’s Son I stop to watch the sea I clear the misty windscreen and search the ragged beach I never fail to spot her as She cuts into the surf She gently strokes the water for an hour then returns Funny how it all works out when dreams become more real Than Life itself, I live for sleep when love will be revealed. As constant as the waves themselves She swims the darkling bay I’ll take that vision home tonight for comfort as I lay She’ll meet me like She always does, we’ll swim into the dawn And morning finds her gone again as life goes on and on. Funny how it all works out when dreams become more real Than Life itself, I live for sleep when love will be revealed. Dreams become more real Love will be revealed.

YOUR EYES 03:03
Light as the daybreaks You smile just as you wake Another chance to play in the sun When I look in your eyes I fall into a pool of light Dive into the sea of Life Your eyes, your eyes When you sleep I’m stranded here, By and by, you’ll reappear A lifetime to celebrate A ship with love at its wake A last chance to Marvel what we’ve done And we’ll crest the ocean waves Sail into the endless rays Never be alone again Your eyes, your eyes When I sleep you drift away By and by, we’ll meet again. Your eyes Your eyes

GABRIEL 02:25
Gabriel With days so dark Wonder if Springtime will ever come to me I found a photograph we were on a stretch of beach The rush of surf the salty breeze, days when we were free Gabriel Angel boy I never knew until you flew away from me You left an open book and underlined a phrase A twinkling of an eye, trumpet sounds, end of days Wings brighter than the star, Gabriel Wings brighter than the star, Gabriel

SILENT WAVES 02:31
SILENT WAVES Wild-eyed the man rode his bike to the end of the pier Looking ‘round but the clouds were all coming too near Took a pack from his jacket, the smoke hung in the air Then the smoke & the clouds & the dark was everywhere. When the leaves & the trees & the people all fall down And the sound of waves unheard as they echo through the town The man from the news-stand was gone from his corner next day The news was gone too & the teevee had nothin’ to say Frozen in attitudes the light was as bright as the black Nobody noticed, but the “Time of the Season” was back When the leaves & the trees & the people all fall down And the sound of waves unheard as they echo through the town
